Our reconciliation journey has taken a significant step forward with the launch of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). This plan represents our commitment to reconciliation within every aspect of our organisation, from operations through service delivery to community engagement.

Codex is an Australian B Corp certified consultancy dedicated to leveraging technology for a sustainable future. Founded on empathy, sustainability and authenticity, these values guide our decisions and interactions with our people, clients and community.

Why a Reflect RAP?

Our decision to develop a Reflect RAP stems from our belief in the power of reconciliation. It aligns seamlessly with our values and mission, reflecting our commitment to creating positive social impact.

A Reflect RAP, the first stage in the RAP framework, is designed to help organisations lay the foundation for reconciliation by building relationships, raising awareness, and creating a shared understanding of reconciliation within the organisation. It serves as an introduction to the reconciliation process, allowing Codex to explore and establish the connections needed for long-term engagement.

Codex’s Reflect RAP is not just a document; it’s a roadmap that guides us in fostering meaningful change within our organisation and beyond. Led by Toby Vann, our Director and RAP Champion, and supported by a dedicated RAP Working Group, our Reflect RAP outlines specific actions to support reconciliation efforts.

Our Partnership with Girls from Oz

Our reconciliation journey began with internal discussions amongst staff who had a desire to make a tangible difference in our local and indigenous communities. In this pursuit, we have actively sought partnerships with organisations that align with our values and share our commitment to reconciliation.

Codex has partnered with Girls from Oz (G-Oz), a non-profit organisation empowering Indigenous girls through arts and education. Our pro bono work has positively influenced their ability to raise funds, empowering them to spend more time doing what they do best! This bolster to their technological capabilities has enabled G-Oz to focus more on their impactful programs, making a real difference in the lives of the girls and young women they support.

      Our Partnership with Jeremy Donovan

Our partnership with Jeremy Donovan has been a highlight of our RAP journey. Jeremy visited our office and shared his inspiring story about how his cultural heritage and identity have opened doors for him around the world. We were fortunate to engage in a trade of services with Jeremy. While we uplifted his business with a brand new website, Jeremy gifted us the beautiful artwork now featured on our RAP.

Jeremy’s artwork also holds profound significance for Codex. His creative process was deeply collaborative. Jeremy engaged with our team members, learnt about our company’s history, future plans, and values, and blended these insights with his own experiences and heritage. This unique approach infuses each piece with a blend of Aboriginal artistic expression and corporate identity, making it truly special.

What it means to us to have a reflect RAP

Developing and launching our Reflect RAP is a meaningful milestone for Codex. Our Reflect RAP embodies our commitment to reconciliation, our people, clients, and the broader community. It signifies that we are part of a national movement dedicated to creating a more equitable and inclusive Australia. This initiative validates our efforts to prioritise social responsibility and cultural understanding, holding us accountable and inspiring us (and hopefully others) to continuously strive for improvement and meaningful impact.

Our Reflect RAP is a testament to our dedication to fostering positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and creating a workplace culture that embraces diversity and inclusion.

“Codex aims to be at the forefront of our industry in the recognition of the histories and cultures of First Nations peoples. We do so in a spirit of humility, seeking to learn from the wisdom of First Nations peoples, and to embrace this vast body of knowledge as we deliver exceptional outcomes for our people, clients and communities across Australia.”

          Looking ahead

          Getting Started (Q1 FY25)

At Codex, we have begun identifying local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and strengthening our commitment to reconciliation. We have also enjoyed participating in NAIDOC Week events, as our RAP Working Group entered into a month-long NAIDOC activation raising awareness both internally and externally.

          Building Understanding (Q2 FY25)

We will focus on developing a deeper understanding of cultural protocols and the local Traditional Owners. Codex will review our cultural learning needs and work to enhance staff knowledge about cultural practices and their significance. We will look to further engage with key stakeholders in the First Nations community, drawing on their experience and knowledge to create genuine learning opportunities for Codex staff.

          Strategic Growth (Q3 FY25)

We will create business cases to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment and supplier diversity, exploring potential collaborations and membership opportunities. By this stage we will have strong working relationships with First Nations individuals and organisations, and will look to work closer together as we enter the final stages of the Reflect RAP.

Sustaining Progress (Q4 FY25 and beyond)

We will again promote reconciliation through National Reconciliation Week activities, ensuring opportunities are provided to our people to learn, participate, and educate! Codex will also work closely with Reconciliation Australia, appropriately tracking and reporting on our Reflect RAP progress.

Through this collaboration with Reconciliation Australia, we will then work towards drafting and implementing the next RAP, an Innovate RAP. We look forward to working closely with our strategic partners, including Jeremy and G-Oz, as well as others identified through the Reflect RAP, on this next step of our Reconciliation Journey – ensuring our efforts are impactful on our people and communities.
