About the client

Healthia, one of Australia’s largest diversified allied health providers, partnered with Codex to explore how artificial intelligence could be used to enhance clinical performance, operational efficiency, and decision-making across its national network.

With support from AWS Proof of Concept funding, Codex ran five PoCs in parallel—a bold strategy that enabled Healthia to test multiple strategic ideas with minimal risk and maximum learning. Two of these PoCs—Clinician Churn Prediction and Utilisation Forecasting—proved highly feasible and impactful. These insights were scaled into a production solution: Healthia Pulse.

Healthia Pulse is now live and empowering clinic and regional partners with predictive, actionable insights—delivered through an interactive dashboard, supported by Codex’s AWS FTR-approved ModelOps framework, and architected for secure, scalable deployment.

Challenge

Healthia sought to modernise decision-making across its growing allied health business. However, it faced a number of common challenges:

  • Clinician churn was costly and difficult to predict

  • Clinic utilisation varied widely, with limited forecasting capability

  • Operational levers for performance were not well understood

  • There was limited visibility into KPIs across clinicians and clinics

To unlock meaningful value, Healthia needed to go beyond reporting—and toward predictive, scalable insights.

How could Healthia rapidly test multiple data science opportunities—and scale the most promising ones into real-world value?

The Approach

Codex proposed a rapid feasibility phase using AWS-funded Proof of Concepts, tackling five distinct use cases simultaneously:

1. Clinician Churn Prediction
Forecast which clinicians were likely to leave, and why.

2. Clinic & Clinician Utilisation Forecasting
Predict future workload at a weekly and clinic level.

3. Performance Benchmarking
Establish baseline performance across demographic segments.

4. Utilisation Levers
Identify drivers of high or low clinician utilisation.

5. Financial Planning
Explore forecasting capabilities for forward-looking budget planning.

All five PoC’s was delivered in under six weeks—covering data exploration, model feasibility, success metric alignment, and stakeholder engagement

The Outcome

Codex’s parallel PoC approach enabled Healthia to quickly evaluate, compare, and prioritise high-impact opportunities. The Churn Prediction and Utilisation Forecasting use cases were selected for production based on feasibility, accuracy, and business relevance.

This led to the development and launch of Healthia Pulse.

Healthia Pulse Highlights

Churn Risk Prediction Pipeline
Alerts managers to clinicians at risk of leaving, enabling timely retention.
Utilisation Forecasting Pipeline
Predicts clinician availability and workload—supporting proactive rostering.
Automated KPI Extraction
Calculates key performance metrics across clinics and cohorts.
Interactive Front-End Dashboard
Custom-built for Clinic Partners, Regional Managers, and Executives to explore insights, act on risks, and monitor performance—all in one interface.
Model Deployment via Codex ModelOps
All models and data pipelines are deployed on Codex’s AWS FTR-approved ModelOps framework, providing CI/CD, versioning, observability, and scalable infrastructure.

Why it Worked

AWS PoC Funding = De-risked Innovation
By leveraging AWS funding, Healthia was able to explore broadly without upfront investment, making smarter, data-backed decisions about where to build and scale.

Parallel Execution
Codex delivered 5 feasibility studies concurrently, allowing Healthia to move fast and focus resources on the most promising ideas.

Production-Grade Delivery
Healthia Pulse is not a prototype—it’s a production-grade application with secure infrastructure, interactive dashboards, and automated pipelines.

Trusted Partnership
Codex worked side-by-side with Healthia’s business and clinical teams to ensure every insight was tied to a real operational need—turning data into decisions.
