  3. Pivot Point at Cloud Adoption

We’re at a pivot point in cloud adoption beyond simply taking advantage of the services that the hyperscalers provide.

In our latest Future Focus video, listen to Codex CEO, Martin Campbell on why it’s time to stop paying for fixed maximum capacity and to actually transition to true elasticity in the cloud.

We’re at a pivot point in cloud adoption now because organisations are taking advantage of the services that Hyperscalers provide. And we’ve been doing that for a few years. And the Hyperscalers are in a war themselves.

They’re in a war for your business. And that war has turned into a price war for reserved instances. But that’s the old way of doing it in the cloud. So it’s great to get into the cloud. It’s great to be able to abrogate the responsibility for managing our infrastructure, keeping your servers up to date, keeping them patched off to the hyperscalers.

But you’re really just using the same old approach. You’ve got fixed capacity in the cloud with a reserved instance price. And it looks great because you get a really good offer when you go into the cloud, whether you’re taking a one year reserved instance or a three year reserved instance, getting incredible discounts off the rack rate. But what you’re doing is paying for fixed maximum capacity.

And what you should really be doing is paying for the capacity that your customers need. And right now there’s the opportunity to switch to a serverless architecture.

That’s why we’re at a pivot point. Yeah, we’ve had enough with cloud adoption 1.0 it’s time to go AWS 2.0 and get true elasticity in the cloud.
